It’s no secret that the world is changing fast. One of the most striking trends affecting businesses is the rapid transformation of the workforce.
More and more people now prefer to work on a flexible basis. As a result, companies are becoming increasingly reliant on talent sources beyond their full-time employees. This shift presents a huge opportunity for companies to differentiate themselves by developing talent strategies for sourcing, managing and motivating the entire workforce – both internal and external people. HR teams should be the driving force behind this change, because it gives them a golden opportunity to demonstrate innovation and add value within their organizations.
Recently, SAP partnered with Oxford Economics to conduct a comprehensive global study on external workforce trends entitled External Workforce Insights 2018: The Forces Reshaping How Work Gets Done. The research found that 44% of overall workforce spend is on external resources, and that 65% of companies say the external workforce is important or very important to meeting market demands. Despite this, only 19% of companies feel strongly that they have a talent strategy that encompasses both employees and external workers.
